Biography

Richard White, (b. 1944, Oak Park, Illinois). Mr. White was graduated from Mercer Island High School in Seattle, Washington. He first attended RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) to earn a B.F.A. in Sculpture and Art History in 1969. From there, he went to Australia to work for the Melbourne National Ballet in set design, then accepted a teaching position at Balob Teachers College in Lae, Papua New Guinea. Mr. White returned to the United States with his new Australian wife, where they both taught in San Diego, California. 


He was awarded a Masters in Education and Psychology at Alliant University (USIU), San Diego, California. In 2005, Mr. White attended the University of Miami, where he was awarded his Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Art History. He has taught fine arts and design at both the secondary and university level in the United States, England, and Papua New Guinea and served two years as a visiting professor at RISD. White was a founder of the Intercultural Council of the Arts in San Diego, California, served on the National Bicentennial Committee, and designed the Fronteras Program. While in Papua New Guinea, he served on the Prime Minister’s Council to Preserve the National Culture and founded the Cultural and Contemporary Arts Museum at Balob Teachers College. While in the corporate world, White managed companies in California and had a successful career as a Vice President in Operations, Marketing, and Sales. He maintains a painting studio in Pompano Beach, Florida.
